About Heather


Heather Hare began her horn career at the age of 10, in San Antonio, Texas. Two years later she began studying seriously with Stig Jenson, then 4th horn in the San Antonio Symphony. She attended Interlochen Arts Camp for 4 summers, where she studied with eminent horn player, professor, and composer Dr. Randall Faust. In 1994 and 1996 she was awarded top honors as the best French horn soloist in the U.I.L. Texas State Solo & Ensemble competition. She studied horn performance for 3 years at Baylor University in Waco, Texas under Dr. Margaret Robinson, and graduated a year later with a Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature.

In 2000, Heather came to Houston, where she became the 2nd horn in the Clear Lake Symphony, a position she still holds today. In addition, she is the 4th horn in the Galveston Symphony Orchestra, the former principal horn of the Pasadena Philharmonic, and a regular substitute for the Houston Civic Symphony, the Houston Sinfonietta, and the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra. She also plays with the Esprit de Cor horn choir. Heather made her solo debut with the Houston Sinfonietta in September 2012, performing Sonata No. 2 for Horn and Strings by Luigi Cherubini.

Heather is currently a student of Julie Thayer, 4th horn in the Houston Symphony.

Heather has been married to Chris Hare since 1999, and they have 2 beautiful children, Hannah and William. When she's not practicing or in rehearsal, Heather enjoys reading and scrapbooking.
